MANGAWARU RIVER BOARD.

WORK ON DRAIN AT ORINI. ACCEPTANCE OF TENDER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —CfWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Wednesday The tender of Peter Jelavich, Hamilton, has been accepted by the Mangawaru River Board for the widening and deep ening of the ten foot drain at Orini, which passes through tho Henry Soldiers' Settlement. The board has secured a loan of £6OOO for tho work and this amount has been uubsidised by the Government to tho extent of £9OO, in consideration of ihe service the dram will give to the Henry Settlement. The River Board was engaged to-day in consultation with a number of settlers who occupy land along the lower reaches cf the Mangawaru River from Littlewood's . landing to the nver outlet at Taupiri. The board had called on settlors to show cause why they should not be required to remove the willows in the river fronting their properties. After considerable discussion tho majority of the bottlers agreed that the board should do the work and charge the settlers concerned.
