RATEPAYERS' INTERESTS.
NEW ASSOCIATION FORMED. Criticism of the City Council was voiced at a meeting of ratepayers held in the Point Chovalier public hall last evening to form a local ratepayers* association. The principal complaint made was in connection with the transport question, but the raising of loan moneys without the consent of ratepayers, the state of many streets in Point Chevalier and other matters were also discussed. Mr. J. Edgar presided. The objects of a ratepayers' association were explained by Mr. H. B. Taylor, vice-president of tho City West Ratepayers' Association. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. Bromley; vice-president, Mr. J. Davies; executive, Messrs. Owens, Bell,, Silcock, Hales, J. Edgar, and E. F. Carter, with power to add other members. Resolutions were carried calling upon the City Council to provide an adequate transport service .at a reasonable cost, and urging the Prime Minister to refuse to validate by special Act of Parliament the raising of loan money by the City Council without the consent of the ratepayers.
