AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. INCREASE IN ACTIVITY. A somewhat larger volume of business passed on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday than on Monday, and there was activity in several banking and insurance lines. The absence oi sellers of Government and local body securities was even more marked than of late, but there was good demand for these investments. War Loans, 1936, 5£ per cent., sold at £lOl ss, tho same price as was given for thern at the end of last month. In banks National of Australasia, contributing, sold at £8 13s. There was a further upward movement of New Zealauds, which sold at the two later calls at 60s 3d. buyers still offering that figure. Business was done in these shares last week at 59s 3d and 59s Ud, and on Mon day at 60s In insurance a sale of New Zealands was effected at 40s 3d, as com pared with 40s on Saturday South British sold at 575, au advance of 3d on last week's rate. In breweries New Zealand Breweries shares, which had not been dealt in since tho middle of September, changed hands at 41s 6d at tho morning call, and at 42s at the last call. Tho last, salo recorded was at 445. In miscellaneous £54 10s was offered for (Jolomal Sugars without response. Hamilton Inoatres, which brought 20s at the beginning of July, sold at 15s, and Milne and Choyce debenture stork were done at 23s 4d. After selling at lis at noon Taranaki Oilfields weakened to sellers at 10s 9d and buyers 10s 4d at tho closing call. In mining Moanataian, contributing, sold at Is 2d and Occidental Una United, contributing, at Is Bd, on a par with current rates.
