BURDEN UPON FUNDS SPENT ON INJUMft. NEW SOUTH WALES' PROBLEM. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Nov.. 28. The numerous and ever-increasing number of motor accidents in New South Wales is causing a serious drain on the funds of the public hospitals, which are pressing for Government recognition of this special burden which has fallen upon them. The Minister of Health, Dr. R. Arthur, estimates that these accidents cost the hospitals £IOO.OOO a year. He proposes that the portion of the main roads grant which is raised by motor taxes be taken to relieve the hospital funds. The crowded condition of motor traffic has become such a pressing problem that the Chief Secretary, Mr. A. Bruntnell, intends to calx a conference to discuss new regulations for controlling both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
