AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. IHE WEEK OPENS QUIETLY. The Auckland Stock Exchange opened the week to quiet business yestorday, when the sales made were belcw the average number. In debentures Auckland Harbour Boards, 1936, 4 per cent., changed hands at £B7. The lust transaction was in March, when £B6 10s .was paid. In Government securities War Loans, 1938, 4Ji per cent, had sale at £96 15s at the first call. Late buyers offered £96 12s 6d, but holders withdrew. In inscribed stocks the 1927-41 issue, 5| per cent., changed hands at £9B 10s, an advance of 5s on the price paid last month. In banks holders of New South Wales reduced their early quotation of £46 10s to £45 17s 6d at the last call, but buyers were firm at £45. New Zealands hardened to sell at 60s, an advance of threepence on Saturday's transaction and of ninepenco on a sale made a week ago. Unions were sought at £l4 ss, an advance of 5s on Saturday's offer, sellers £l4 10s. In insurance 39s 9d Was offered for New Zealands, which have recently sold at 40s, but no holders wore revealed. Offers for South British were renewed at 56s 6d, late sellers 58s 6d. A sale was made at 56s 9d last week. Other sections attracted only slight business at approximately current rates.
