ANNUAL MEETING HELD.

MR. HOLDSWORTH RE-ELECTED

The annual meeting of the Young Men's Christian Association was held last evening; the president, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, presiding. The report and balance-sheet (summarised in the Herald last Friday) were adopted. In moving the adoption of the report, the president referred to the loss the association had suffered by the death of Mr. H. M. Smeeton, a past-president and for many years an active member of the directorate. He also paid a tribute to the good work of Mr. Vernon T. Drew as general secretary. Mr. C. J. Tunks, who seconded the motion, referred briefly to the community work of the association. Service should be their aim, and the association should strive to serve members of all churches, irrespective of creed or social standing. Their work among migrants and in the military camps was proof that this ideal was being carried into practice. Among the members of the directorate who gave brief addresses was Mr. H. G. Fountain, who referred in particular to the work of the boys' and religious divisions. As the public was to a great extent unaware of the influence of the association in these directions, it had been decided in the future to give more prominence to their activities, in order that financial support with which to continue their operations might be forthcoming.
