Monday For over two hours this afternoon the House of Representatives sat in private session to hear an address on foreign affairs by the Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L. S Amery. The press was excluded from the session, which lasted until 5.30 p.m. At the evening sitting the Insurance Companies' Deposits Amendment Bill and the Public Works Amendment Bill were passed. The House disagreed with the amendments made by the Legislative Council to the Rent Restriction Continuance Bill and it also disagreed with the Council's amendments to the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill. In each case committees were appointed to confer with committees from the Council. The Prime Minister promised to make a statement to-morrow as to the remaining work of the session. The House rose at 11.10 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.

INSURANCE DEPOSITS. QUESTION. OF THE AMOUNT. SAME FOR ALL OFFICES. [by telegraph.—press association.] WELLINGTON, Monday. The Insurance Companies' Deposits [Amendment Bill was passed by the House this evening. Replying to the second reading debate, the Attorney-General, Hon. F. J. Rollesfon, said no valid objection to the bill had been raised during the debate. Lloyd's representatives in London agreed to the principle of the bill, and the only question was what the amount of the deposit was to bo. On that point they were only asking all offices to pay a similar amount. He agreed that the definition of " agent " might be a little wide, and he was prepared when in committee to move amendments that would meet the case. The bill was read a second time on the voices. The bill was later reported from committee with amendments moved by the- Attorney-General, read a third time and passed. The amendments made to the bill in Committee are designed to make it clear that the deposit of £20,000 would not be required ot each individual agent in the Dominion of any outside firm of the Association of Underwriters, the one deposit of £20,000 to cover the operations of all the agents. Cover rioj.es and receipts for premiums are also to bear on their face the name of the agent or underwriter by whom the deposit has been m/ide, together with a statement that the deposit has been made and is available as security for the contract.
