Monday When the balance-sheet was published on the completion of the city's war memorial tower on Durie Hill, the name of W. J. Poison was shown as the donor of the land on which the tower was built. After three years th> matter was given a new aspect to-day when Poison and another claimed £413 from Hope Gibbons, former Mayor of Wanganui, for the land, which, it was stated for the plaintiffs, was not a gift but was sold. It was alleged that defendant gave an undertaking to accept personal responsibility for the amount. Gibbons was a member of the memorial committee. Mr. Justice Ostler reserved decision.
