HERALD STAFF SOCIAL.
A social evening tendered by the staffs of all departments of Wilson and Horton, Ltd., to Mr, G. C. Codlin, manager, on his return from abroad, and to Mr. R. M. Hacket, on his completing 10 years as editor of the New Zealand Herald, was held in the Priscilla tea rooms on Saturday evening. Tho chairman, Mr. A. B. Chappell, proposed the toast to Mr. Codlin who, in reply, gave an interesting account of his impressions and observations in Great Britain and America. The toast to Mr. Hacket was proposed by Mr. J. M. Hardcastle, who, on behalf of the staff, presented a case of pipes to Mr. Hacket as a memento of the occasion. The latter spoke of changes in Auckland City and Province and in journalism since he joined the staff of the Herald nearly 30 years ago. . , During the evening items were contributed by Messrs. D. I). Holland, H. Pawsey, C. R. Brown. T. Ross, 0. S. Hints, J. 8. t>. Banna and W. H. Simp--1 son, tho last-named also acting a-s accompanist.
