TRAGEDY AT PICNIC.
YOUNG' WOMAN KILLED. MURDER CHARGE SEQUEL. A. and N.Z. ADELAIDE. Nov. 10. William Haines, aged 25, has been found guilty of the murder of Miss Devine Schmidt, aged 18, at Bridgevvatcr. Sentence was deferred. While a picnic was being held at Bridgewater, a hillside resort near Adelaide, Miss Schmidt was shot five times in the head by Haines. Haines was afterwards arrested and charged with murder. It is stated that after shooting Miss Schmidt Haines walked into the bush and turned a revolver on himself, and inflicted a wound in his head. Jealousy is believed to have been the motive for the crime.
