EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS

COMING EVENT IN SYDNEY. ENTHUSIASM AND INTEREST. AUCKLANDERS TO TAKE PART. Although the nest Eucharistic Congress, to bo held in Sydney, will not take place until September of next year, remarkable enthusiasm and interest are already in evidence in all parts of the world. This is tlie greatest event of the year for Boman Catholics, and the indications are that a splendid effort will be made by Sydney to do such an occasion justice. Interest in New Zealand is growing and already in Auckland some 30 laymen have enrolled to take part in the event. They have been issued with membership badges and have made their reservations for the most important events. Dr. Buxton, of St. Patrick's Cathedral, has been appointed diocesan secretary, and all applications for membership should be made through him. Dr. Buxton said at the present time he anticipated about 500 New Zeal&nders would make the trip across the Tasman. The question of travelling accommodation is now being considered, and it is not improbable that a special steamer will be chartered. Many people are evidenily leaving nothing to chance, because accommodation on the Ulimaroa, which will leave Wellington on August 24 for Sydney, is already well booked —a most unusual happening when the date is so many months ahead. The local office of Thomas Cook and Son has received advice that a party of 25 Canadians, who will attend the congress, will arrive at Auckland from \ ancouver on August 13. They are all prominent lay people and have expressed the desire to make a short tour through the North Island before proceeding to Sydney. An itinerary, which will include the Waitomo Caves and Rotorua, is already being mapped out. Dignitaries of the Church in all parts of the world will pass through Auckland on their way to Sydney. Among these will be a large delegation from Rome.
