GIRL GUIDE DISPLAY.
RALLY AT DOMAIN TO-DAY. MANY SPECTACULAR ITEMS. The largest rally of Girl Guides ever held in New Zealand will take place at the Domain this afternoon, when 1000 Girl Guides and Brownies will present a display of marching, typical guide work and a pageant. The opening demonstration will bo a unique welcome by the Maori girls of Queen Victoria College, comprising the Wikitoria Company. Deservedly popular, their songs and dances are a feature, of school childrens' displays. Another Maori item will be a gymnastic display by the boys of St. Stephen's College. The excellence of their physical culture demonstrations and their ability to perform hakas in the authentic manner need no introduction. The most spectacular event of the day will be the formation by 800 girls of a living trefoil, the emblem of the Girl Guide movement. The multi-coloured dresses of the girls will bring out the different features of the emblem in sharp outlines against the green turf of the Domain, and should provide a brilliant picture in a beautiful setting. A striking pageant will then be presented, linking up the customs of bygone peoples and the ideals of ancient civilisations with the aims of the present guide movement. An exhibition of typical work by the Girl Guides and Brownies will be given and there will also be striking figure marching by the whole assembly, when the chief commissioner for New Zealand, Mrs. W. R. Wilson, will take the salute in the march-past. Painstaking preparations and weeks of patient rehearsal promise to make the demonstration more than just a glittering display, and an excellent attendance is assured.
