[ LOT OF CIVIL SERVANT. In giving evidence at Perth recently, Wore the Australian Public Servico Arbitrator, Mr. Atleo Hunt, regarding claims lor district allowances in distant parts of Western Australia, Mr. l'\ VJ. Prideaux, postmaster at Lcederyille, made some interesting statements. Mr. Prideaux said that his predecessor nt Hall's Creek, owing to the absence of a. surgeon, had to perform an operation ■with a razor according to instructions telegraphed from Perth. A doctor hurried overland to Hall's Creek, but the journey occupied a fortnight, and the patient died of malarial fever. At Hall's Creek the ftpeaker was resident magistrate, warden, mining registrar, commissioner of roads, »nd chairman of licensing bench. Once %ffl a ki ng - police inquiries he had to tide 380 miles through flooded country.,
