CONDITIONS IN BRITAIN.
COST OF LIVING HIGHER. UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received November 18, 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. RUGBY, Nov. 17. Owing to seasonal increases in the price of fuel and some foodstuffs the cost of living in October was 69 per cent, above that of July. 1914. ' The effect of cold weather on building and other trades lias also accounted for a seasonal increase in unemployment. 'Among approximately 12,000,000 work people insured against unemployment the percentage wholly or partly unemployed ■was 9.5 on October 17, compared with 0.3 in the month previously and 13.6 a year previously, when the effects of the mining dispute were still being felt.
