All readers of " Boys and Clirls " are invited to take part in the N.Z. Herald 102? Christmas Competitions, which are tibW df>§h td all children from six to sixteen years of age. Thfe subjects are as follows!-™ SHORT CHRISTMAS STORY (not iTairy Story). Must be original, and liaVe a New Zealand setting. Not mora than 500 Avoids. Two prizes, one for bays, one for girls, one guinea each. Open to boys and girls from 13 to 16 years of age. SPECIAL CHRISTMAS ESSAY, " Why Santa Onus was Late," not rttoro than 400 words. For boys and girls from 10 to 12 years. Two prizes, one for bt)ys, one for girls, one guinea each. NEW ZEALAND FAIRY STORY, " King Moa'S Christmas Parly." Not mora than 400 words. For thfe little folk, front 6to 9 years. Two prizes, one for boys, one for girls, ono guinea each. ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS POEM, "This Happy Christmas Day." Any age up to and including 16. Two prizes, one-half guinea each, for boys and giriSi Also Consolation Prizes. SICE AND BLIND CHILDREN. An interesting feature of the 1927 Herald Christmas Competitions will be the award of special prizes to the children Qt the Princess Mftfy Hospital, the King George Hospital at ltotorua, and pupils of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. There Will bo a special essay contest, not mote than 400 words, as follows Girls: "My Christmas Wish." Boys: "If 1 Were Santa Claus." Also an original story contest. Setting must be laid in New Zealand. Length not more than 450 words. There will be handsome book prizes for the sick children, speciallyselected gift prizes for the blind Children. RULES FOR COMPETITORS. All work must bo absolutely original, and must not have appeared in print before. Any competitor sending in work copied, or already published, will be disqualified, and debarred from all future Herald competitions. Parents or teachers' guarantee as to original work required with every entry. Write neatly in ink, on one side of the paper only. State full name (not initials), address and age on first page, and pin all sheets together securely. Address ail entries to Miss Morton, Editor " Boys and Girls," N.Z. Herald, Auckland. Mark envelopes, " Christmas Competitions," also adding, " Story/* " Essay," or " Poem," according to contents. Closing date for all entries. November 50. Entries that do not Conform to Above Rules will be Disqualified.
