DETOUR ROAD IN COUNTY.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] KAEO, Friday. The Whangaroa County Council has received advice that the main road through the county has been made a "detour" road by the Main Highways Board, which means a pound for pound on maintenance will be available.
A clerk of works has been appointed to commence duties on the new concrete wharf at Whangaroa on December 1. The contractor, Mr. B. V. Rope, is making all necessary arrangements to commence work and will commence making the concrete piles on that date. The council has sent telegrams to the Government in support of the petrol tax and the general opinion of members is that it is in the best interests of the country districts. Daylight saving has been received by the settlers with some resentment but the feeling may change. The dairy company na3 made all cream collecting an hour later by the clock, and the directors have the monthly meoting at 1.30, instead of 12.50. The County Council has its meeting at 10 a.m., instead of 9.30 a.m.
