ENLIVENING THE BORDER.
COLOURED FOLIAGE PLANTS
A few varieties of plants that arc conspicuous for their coloured loliage add variety to the mixed border, and arc a great contrast to the other plants and flowers. Amaranthus salifolius and tricolor are gorgeously-coloured plants in the autumn: celosia pyramidalis with their many shades of crimson, tangerine snd orange are exceedingly brilliant; perulla nankinensis has rich bronze foliage; kochia trichophylla has a rich russet crimson autumn foliage; zea tricolor, the striped maize, is an effective subject; ricinus Gibsoni has rich bronzy-purple leaves. A few of these interspersed here and there through the mixed border are most effective.
