CHRISTMAS COMPETITIONS.

£ —«e» All readers of " Boys and Girls " are invited to take part in the N.Z. Herald 1927 Christmas Competitions, which are new open to all children from six to sixteen years of age. The subjects are as follows: SHORT CHRISTMAS STORY (not Fairy Story). Must be original, and have a New Zealand setting. Not more than 500 words. Two prizes, -one for boys, one for girls, one guinea each. Open to boys and girls from 13 to 16 years of age. SPECIAL CHRISTMAS ESSAY, " Why Santa Claus was Late," not more than 400 words. For boys and girls from 10 to 12 years. Two prizes, ono for boys, one for girls, one guinea each. NEW ZEALAND FAIRY STORY, " King Moa's Christmas Party." Not moro than 400 words. For the little folk, from 6to 9 years. Two prizes, one for boys, one for girls, one guinea each. ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS POEM, "This Happy Christmas Day." Any age up to and including 16. Two prizes, one-half guinea each, for boys and girls. Also Consolation Prizes. SICK AND BLIND CHILDREN. An interesting feature of the 1927 Herald Christmas Competitions will be the award of special prizes to the children of the Princess Mary Hospital, the King George Hospital at Rotorua, and pupils of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. There will be a special essay contest, not more than 400 words, as follows: Girls: "My Christmas Wish." Boys: "If I Wore Santa'Claus." . Also au original story contest. Setting must bo laid in New Zealand. Length not moro than 450 words. There will be handsome book prizes for the sick children, speciallyselocted gift prizes for the blind children. <.
