CROSSING COLLISION.
MILK LORRY AND TRAIN.
MOTOR REDUCED TO WRECK.
LUCKY ESCAPE OF DRIVER.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COB RESPONDENT.] PUTARUBU. Friday. While driving a milk lorry, Mr. P. Cameron, a sharemilker, had a marvellous escape from death this morning. The lorry crashed headlong into the engine of the 8.59 Fraukton-Rotorua train. 'llie accident took place at tho Waharoa crossing,'where the road and railway line run parallel for some considerable distance before the crossing.
The lorry and the tram were both going in the same direction, but owing to the rattling o? his milk cans Mr. Cameron failed to notice the engine. The enginedriver, however, believed that he had seen his danger. The lorry was hurled 15ft. or 20ft. in a splintered mass ot crumpled milkeans, mudguards and broken wheels.
With commendable promptness the enginedriver pulled up the train within two lengths. i'he lorry-driver escaped with cuts about the face. His load of cans, however, was badly shattered. The engine received damage to the wheels, but was able to proceed under its own power to a sidmg. A relief engine took the train on to its destination.
