BRIDES AND BRIDEGROOMS.
MARRIAGES LAST YEAR. SURVEY BY STATISTICIAN. [by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION. J WELLINGTON. Sunday When studying the ages at which people marry, the greatest attention is naturally focussed upon youth and old age, says the Government Statistician, in his report on the vital statistics of the Dominion for 1926. Taking brides and bridegrooms separately, it is found that of the persons married, 1965 brides (or nearly 18 per cent, of all brides) and 410 bridegrooms (5.84 per cent.) were under 21 years of age. in two cases the bride had not attained her fifteenth birthday, in 11 cases she was between 15 and 16, and in TO cases between 16 and 17 The youngest age for bridegrooms was between 17 and 18, there being ten cases in which the bridegroom had not attained his eighteenth birthday At the othei end ol the list, f6Q bridegrooms and 364 brides were of 45 years and over Sixty-six per cent of the bridegrooms and 80 pei cent, of the brides were under 30 years of ago Of 10.047 women undet the age of 40. married men older than themselves and 1705 married men of a younger age The age of 25 held pride of place with bride grooms and 21 with brides; the latter has remained unaltered for many years.
