EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN.
LARGE AREA AFFECTED. FEW CASUALTIES ONLY. A. and N.Z. TOKIO, Oct. 28. The earthquake experienced yesterday at Niigata covered a considerable area of the west coast, but there were only a few casualties. Railway and other communications have been interrupted. Reports vary about the intensity of the shock. Some assert that in violence it equalled that of 1923. Tokio and th# larger towns in the north-west were not affected. •
