ST. ANDREW'S SOCIETY.
HALLOWE'EN CELEBRATIONS, Hallowe'en was celebrated in trua Scottish fashion by the St. Aodwrt Society of Auckland in Scot* Hall on Bafc» arday evening. There was an attendant* of upward of 1200, including 80 children from Presbyterian homes who .were th» guests of the society. .... Children's games figured largely in the programme. About 40 performers under the age of 14 took paft ip a beautifullyenacted play into which nursery rhymes were skilfully woven. Tha presentation included choruses, solos and duets. A maypole dance by the children provided spectacular finale. In the basement " dooking for apples " in large tubs of water was a pastime that never palled with scores of youngsters. Mr. G. Baildon, Mayor of Auckland, spent several hours among the children. - An enjoyable musical programme by tsa society's orchestra included M Gems of Scotland." Items were given by tha finalilts in the Captain Eobinson competition for recitations from Burns,, ana the children were presented with prize® of books by the Mayoress. The finalist® were:—ll-15 years, Miss Betty McKain. " Caledoniaunder 11 years, Miaa Jean Croll, "John Barleycorn"; Mist Sheila Barr and Master lan Miller tied for second place in the juniors. A number of the visiting delegates to the Master Bakers' Conference were present. The entertainment included a buffet supper, and old-time dancing waa held later, to the music of the St. Andrew's Society's Orchestra. The arranger ments were admirably conducted, by the secretary Mr. D. McLaren. Miss Pattoa, of Hamilton, was in charge of the children's games.
