THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE* INCOME TAX ANOMALIES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CO&BJESFOKDENT.f CHBISTCHUKCH, Saturday. Resolutions were carried at the annual conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce yesterday as follows: — This conference expresses its great disappointment in the failure of the Government to give relief to income its payers in its repent legislation. It notes thai certain anomalies in graduation have been adjusted, which the Government has stated were necessary before a general reduction could be made. This adjustment having been effected, the conference urges and confidently expects substantial relief ia the next financial bill. That this conferences disapproves of the suggested increase of salaries of members of Parliament, as being most inopportune owing to the present financial stringencyTins conference considers the increase by one-sixth of the ordinary rate to cover the Railway Department's risks for delivery of goods is excessive, and that the* department be urged to reduce this substantially. Conference is of opinion that the compulsory retirement of all civil servants on their completion of 40 years* service ia not in the interests of the Dominion. It, therefore, considers that the Superannuation Act shbuld be amended to allow for longer service where advisable.
