MAILS BY AEROPLANE.
BATCH FOR AUSTRALIA. CAPTAIN SMITH'S QUANDARY. (Received October 28, 6.35 p.m.) A. and N.Z. SAN FRANCISCO. Oct. 27. It is understood that the Government's approval of an Australian air mail being carried by Captain Kmgsford Smith on his flight to Australia may be withdrawn. The airman applied for permission to carry 1500 letters and the postal authorities agreed on condition the mail was not limited to that amount. As a result 4000 letters marked "Air mail to Australia" arrived at the Post Office, after which Captain Smith informed the authorities he understood he was only to take 1500 letters supplied by himself, and not those posted by the general public at various post offices.
