THAMES VALLEY POWER.

NEW SCALE OF CHARGES. COMMUNITY LIGHTING SCHEME. [BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] TE AROHA. Friday. At a meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board the manager, Mr. R. Sprague, reported that the Thames and Te Aroha Borough Councils had agreed to a new scale of charges, to operate as from November 3. The engineer, Mr. N. G. McLeod, reported an improved supply of electricity in the Te Aroha axea, as a result of alterations to the system In the course of a protracted discussion on a community lighting scheme for Thames Valley towns, submitted at the previous meeting by Mr. McLeod, Mr. Arthur, of Te Aroha, raised the point that its adoption would result in shopkeepers disconnecting their inside lights at 8d a unit in favour of the community scheme, which gave them favourably angled street lights at 3d a unit. It was decided, on an amended motion from Mr. Price, to adopt the scheme on a costing basis of £3 a year for 100watt lamps, consumers to pay, for the installation* at an estimated cost of £3 a point.
