Mrs. H. Didsbury is the guest of Mrs. 31. Davis, Nelson. Mrs. Mcßae is tha guest of Mrs. C. E. Kerr, Kings down; South Canterbury. Miss Irene Maurice, of Waiuku, is at present in Auckland and is staying at Castlebar. Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Murray, of Dunedin, who have been on a visit to Auckland, have left by motor on their return. Mr. and Mrs. Eliot Davis are returning by the Aorangi from an extended trip abroad .and will stay at the Grand Hotel. 'Mrs. A. W. Averiil has returned from a visit to Wellington, where she was the guest of Their Excellencies at Government House. A successful sale of work was concluded in St. Peter's Ha!l r Hamilton, on Thursday evening in aid of a fund to provide "an east window in the cathedral. The net proceeds £137, which constitutes a record. The sale of work -was organised by the ladies' guild. The following officers have been elected for the Auckland district Women's Christian Temperance Union: —Mrs, Benfell, district president; Mrs. Finch, district vice-president: Mrs. Williams, district corresponding secretary; Miss Read, receiving secretary; "Mrs. Taylor, treasurer. There was a large attendance at a ball Jield in the Tauranga Town Hall by the spinsters attd married folk of the district in honour of the bachelors, who earlier in the season gave a successful dance. The decorations were a feature and the general excellence of the arrangements assured a very enjoyable time for the guests. The members of the Tauranga Methodist Church Ladies' Guild had a busy time on Wednesday, when a guild afternoon and baby show was held in Wesley Hall. The hal! was crowded for several lours, and a bright and enjoyable afternoon was spent. Fifteen entries were received in two classes for babies. A most successful Bring-and-Buv afternoon in aid of the funds of the Auckland Centre of the Overseas League was held at the residence of Mrs. J. M. Melville, Mount Eden Road, yesterday. Afternoon tea was served, and a short address on 'the history and objects of the league was given by Mr. W. Gage-Brown, the hon. secretary. * A novel entertainment will be presented in the lecture room of the Unity Buildings this evening, when in music, story and song a vivid impression of Egypt and India will be given by a number of versatile artists. The funds raised will be donated towards the new buildinjg in connection with the Community Club organised by the Auckland Play and, Recreation Association. A social evening was given by Mesdames O'Keeffe and Stephenson in St. John's Hall, Parnell, to augment the funds of the Colleen Bawn Fair, which is to be' held at the end of this month. The hall was artistically decorated with streamers and lanterns. Musical 'items ■were rendered by Mrs. Barry (violin), Misses O'Keeffe and McPhail, and Messrs. Rees and Holland. Cards and dancing were enjoyed and a very profitable evening was spent. A delightful party was given at the Auckland Hospital on Monday afternoon by the Victoria League sub-committee, ■when the members entertained the children in ward 20. The party was given as a farewell to a little girl who has spent a long time in hospital and is shortly leaving for her home overseas. Paper caps, ..balloons and- squeakers created a gay srene in the ward, and competitions and games were played. Miss Richardson and Miss Ad kin recited for. the chiTdren and afternoon tea brought the party to a close. The following girls helped to make the afternoon a success:—Misses Cooke, Tancred, Aickin, Adkin, Richardson, Brown, Clark, Madclox, Scott and De Renzy. Among Cowes notabilities of the vounger generation is Lady Hermione Buller, wife of Admiral Sir Henry Buller, •who commands the Royal yacht Victoria and Albert Lady Hermione is the only daughter of Lord and Lady Moray and a direct descendant of the Bonnie Earl of Moray of Scottish history and song. Her marriage to Captain Buller, R.N., was a St. Giles, Edinburgh, event of 1919. She is several years the junior of her sailor husband, though he carries his extra years very lightly. In 1925 Admiral Buller, one of the Devonshire Bnllers, was made a knight, partly because of his admirable service and partly because he was in command of the Royal yacht when Their ] Majesties Went on their Mediterranean . cruise.
