FAMOUS BRITISH TENOR.

JOSEPH HISLOP RECITALS. Music lovers will be glad to learn of the corning visit to Auckland of Joseph Hislop, the famous British tenor, who will give his first recital in the Town Hall on November 3. In speaking of Joseph Hislop's Australian debut, the Sydney Dady Telegraph's critic said the celebrated teno* was given tumultuous receptions from great audiences'. "In exacting programmes," said the critic, "entrancing extracts from operas and ballads, the tenor demonstrated a voice of amazing quality and power employed to perfection. Over and above that lie proved himself an artist with supreme power of interpretation. Beginning more or less quietly with Beethoven's 'Adelaide' he went on through a delightful group of smaller songs, revealing at every step the rich variety of his voice and a faultless technique. Then, in 'Recondita Armonia,' from 'Tosca,' ho showed in an instant the reason for his world-wide fame as an operatic artist. Later there came the aria, 'Che Gelida Martina,' from 'La Boheme,' 'On With the Motley,' from 'Pagliacci,' 'Kishmul's Galley' (arranged by Kennedy Eraser from 'The Songs of the Hebrides'), and 'Mary of Argyle,' with 'La Donna e Mobile' added as an extra. In all his efforts the artist simply went from triumph to triumph." Mr. Hislop will be supported by Alberto Sciarretti, the celebrated pianist and accompanist. Signor Sciarretti is famous in London and New York for his brilliant recitals.
