TAX ON SHINGLES.
GIRLS WHO MUST PAY. Every woman in Schoenau, a small town in the Rhineland, who has shingled hair» was recently ordered to appear at the office of the local rate collector to pay the tax imposed bv the town council for the privilege of following the fashion. Girls are exempt until the end of the second year in the continuation schools and, after that, they must pay 20 marks f£l) a year. Between the ages of 30 and 30, the tax is 30 marks (£1 10s) a year. Half the tax will he remitted to the woman between 20 and 30 who allow# her hair to grow again. As the tax u to date from January 1 of this year* tne council should reap a handsome sura during the next month.
