BICYCLE OUT OF CONTROL.

CRASH INTO STONE WALL. HEALTH INSPECTOR INJURED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Through his bicycle getting beyond his control while he was riding down the steep slope of Dublin Street, Lyttelton, this morning, Mr. Richard James McKenzie, inspector of the staff of the Department of Health, Christchurch, received severe injuries, and now lies in a critical condition in the Christchurch Hospital. Mr. McKenzie, with another inspector, had been taking samples of milk. They were riding their bicycles down Dublin Street, when Mr. McKenzie shot past, calling out that his brake had failed. The cycle and rider crashed with terrific force into the stone wall above the tunnel. Mr. McKenzie was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the casualty ward, where he was found to have sustained a sin. wound across the forehead and other injuries. His condition this evening was still serious. The injured man is married, 63 years of age, and resides at Redcliffs.
