MRS. COLLINSON'S SUCCESS DEFEAT OF MISS CULLING. AUCKLANDER'S UPHILL FIGHT. , GREAT INTEREST IN .MATCH. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday The New Zealand ladies' golf cham : pionship title was won to-day by Mrs. H. Collinson (Manawatu), who defeated Miss Culling (Auckland), 2 and 1. Weather conditions were ideal, and some fine play was witnessed in the final over 36 holes. Mrs. Collinson was in splendid form in the morning, and at the end of 18 holes was 6 up, but Miss Culling made a great effort in the afternoon, and was only beaten by a narrow margin. The first hole was halved. Mrs. Collin son pulled her drive at the " Oasis " and Miss Culling, who had a magnificent drive, took the hole. At the third the Auckland player outdrove Mrs. Collin son by 30yds., but the latter recovered with a beautiful second, and the hole was halved in 4, one under bogey. Miss Culling went through the green at "The Willows " and Mrs. Collinson drove to within 20yds. of the pin. She won the hole, and the next was halved. " Cliff View " saw Mrs. Collinson get in a fine drive, Miss Culling pulling her drive into the rough. Both were on the green in 3, but Mrs. Collinson, taking two putts to her opponent's three, took the hole. Mrs. Collinson 1 up. Miss Culling drove badly off the seventh tee, Mrs. Collinson outdistancing her by 40yds. A good second placed the latter near the green, and she holed out in five. In the afternoon Miss Culling made a brilliant recovery. Miss Culling won the first hole in 4 to 5, and both missed short putts at the next, which was halved in 5. At " Shotover " Miss Culling hooked her second, which landed in a bunker, but she recovered well, and took the bole in 4to 5. Mrs. Collinson 4 up. Miss Culling was on the green at " The Willows " in one, and just failed to sink an Bft. putt. However, she won the hole. Mrs. Collinson 3 up. Margin Reduced to One. " Strang&s " was halved in 6. Both players were on fiie green at " Cliff View " with their thirds, but Miss Cullmg required three putts and lost in 6—5. Mrs Collinson 4 up. Miss Culling won the next in 4 to 5, and took " Monro's " in 3 to 4. The next hole was halved in 3, and at " Totaras " Miss Culling knocked her opponent's ball into the hole, which was halved in 4. " Land's End " went to Miss Culling in 5 to 6, but at " Lagoon Hill " she duffed a chip shot, and lost the hole in 6to 4., Mrs. Collinson 2 up. " Titi's " and " The Kraal " were halved in 5.
