HOLLYWOOD EN FETE.

SHOWER PARTIES. The film colony at Hollywood has never been quite so amosingly " social" as it was recently during , the preparations for the marriage of Mr. Rod La Rocque and Miss Vilma Banky, the beautiful Hungarian blonde. " For weeks," a writer in an exchange says, " ordinary work was almost disorganised by the celebrations. Parties were held daily and nightly, and you could hardly walk down a street without running against a cowboy in silk hat and spats doing his best to emulate the sophistication and polish of Mr. Adolphe Menjcra." The Hollywood press, too, took the affair very seriously. " For formality," one journal remarked naively, " there has been nothing thus far in th© social records of the colony to equal it. The couple even had the banns published prior to the ceremony." When the ceremony eventually did take place there was a remarkable array of celebrities- Mr. Cecil B. de Mille was best man, the bridesmaids included Miss Constance Talmadge, Miss Bebe Daniels and Miss Mildred Lloyd, and the ushers were Ronald Coiman, Jack Holt, Harold Lloyd, Victor Varconi and George Fitzmaurice. Probably no wedding nas ever been responsible for such a gathering of familiar faces. One of the novelties connected with this wedding was the organisation of what are known as " showers"—parties to 'which all the guests bring a stipulated article. Mrs. Goldwyn gave the fortunate Miss Banky a Linen shower, Miss Mildred Lloyd a handkerchief shower, Miss Diana Kane a hosiery shower, and Miss Daniels a perfume shower. As some of the parties were attended by 40 or 50 film people and friends, the bride should be well stocked in these lines for some time to-come.
