MEN IN WORKSHOPS.
CO-OPERATIVE MOVEMENT. [BI TfctfcGRAPH,. —SPECIAL REFOHIEB.J WELLINGTON. Tuesday Trials are to be made in the New Zealand raihvay workshops cf a co operative system adapted to local conditions. It will be based on one which is used most successfully by the Canadian National Railways and has superseded the bonus system the plan essentially consists of meetings of a committee, composed of repre sen'.-aives of the men and the management Full recognition to the men's organisations is given on this committee and the matters discussed arp those pertaining to the mutual interest of the men and the department st each particular workshop. Matters also for committee cooperation are the welfare of employees zenerallv. social halls, library, ambulance, fire brigades, management, "safety first" recommendations, standardisation of work, better "tools and equipment, conditions of shops (soch as heating, lighting, ventilation. etc.). improvement m quality of work, snd numerous other local phases of everyday working. The scope does not include such subjects as vrage agreements or the settling of questions which have's general application.
