In the year 1936-27 Victoria imported goods from overseas which were valued at £55.593.C0) and her exports amounted to £>+,600,000, leaving an adverse- trade bal- ; ance of nearly £21.000.000. To this must . be added the interest charges on the mosey \ that was borrowed to enable these pur- j chases to be made, amounting to £2,500,000 The Premier, Mr. E- J. Hogaa, says he is led to think that protection has failed. The two mam reasons ar# profiteering by man of adorers and the disloyalty of the people who buy imported goods in preference to Australian good*.
