SOUTH ROAD BEAUTIFYING.
TREES AND ROCKERIES. FIRST CONFERENCE TO-MORROW. Representatives of the Auckland Automobile Association and of the 11 local i bodies and organisations interested in the; main highway from the city to Papakura will meet at. Manuwera to-morrow evening to consider schemes for enhancing the natural features of the Great South Road. It is proposed to embark on a programme of tree-planting and to employ rockeries and flowering shrubs wherever unsightly sections of the road will yieid to treatment. Donations in cash have already been received by the provisional committee, and several of the authorities who have appointed delegates have expressed a desire to make every effort to retain the rural features of the highway and eliuinate bizarre advertising and other blots on the landscape.
