CHINESE TRAGEDY.
motor-boat founders. DROWNING OF 300 NATIVES. A. and N.Z. SHANGHAI. Sept. 20. A tragedy occurred when a motor-boat which plied between Tsingtao and Hungshihai sprang a leak and foundered. Over 400 Chinese were aboard and 300 of them perished. An American warship rescued 100 of them. Die Japanese captain of the launch has been arrested on a charge of negligence. The Chinese owner fled.
