DROUGHT IN RIVERINA.
CONDITIONS VERY SERIOUS. GOVERNMENT RELIEF SOUGHT. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Sept. 21. The serious position of a large number of the small graziers in the Northern Kiverina district was set out by a deputation which waited on the Under-Secretary for Agriculture to discuss means for providing drought relief tn the affected area, which covers over 4000 square miles. One member of the deputation said the present season was the worst he had known during 36 years' residence in the district. He did not believe a singla bag of wheat would be gathered in the whole area. Settlers in this district, he said, had been carting water for 18 months. Fodder was practically exhausted, and stock were dying off fast. The farmers had all they could do to keep the horses alive, so that they might be able to carry out next year's seeding. Many storekeepers had been forced to close down their businesses.
