BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP.
INJUNCTION NOT GRANTED. GATE RECEIPTS ESTIMATES. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Sept. 20. An application for an injunction to pre vpnt the contest between Gene Tunnev and Jack Dempsey for the world's heavyweight boxing championship on Thursday was to-dav dismissed by Judge Carpenter. of the Federal Supreme Court. The applicant was the Rev. Elmer Williams. It- is now expected that the gate receipts are not likely to be as ia.rge as was originally anticipated. The promoter of the contest, Mr. Tex Rtckard, at cue time hoped to receive IoGC.GT.JO, bat a person in his confidence now says the promoter will be satisfied if the receipts total £500.000. It ts still thought there will be a considerable profit for Mr Rickard and the two contestants, but the chances are that each will receive less than be expected. The fact that the shares of Dempsey and Tunney have, already been allocated is not likely to prevent a readjustment. The Tunney-Dempsey contest is to take place at Chicago this evening, bat, allowing for the difference in time, the natch trill commence about 2.30 p.SL tomorrow, Auckland tima.
