RANGITOTO ISLAND.
SHOOTING OF DEER. The Rangitoto Island Domain Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. E. Aidridge, presiding. Ihe caretaker reported persons were removing plants from the island, and he asked what authority he had to stop this, it was decided that the caretaker should be sworn in as a special constable Mr. H. Howes was appointed an honorary ranger on the island. Mr. 11. Thomas reported he and a companion had visited the island in search of deer, but had succeeded in shooting cnlv one, ar.d had seen very few others. He believed the reports regarding the number of deer on the island had been verv much exaggerated. The Chairman: That is very satisfactory, but they may not have "beers very good marksmen. The engineer said one man had seen 20 deer and another 17 in a single herd. Two parties would be visiting the island in search of deer in a few da vs. The engineer reported the work of Winding the road to the ssuaaa: was proceeding satisfactorily. s
