UNLAWFULLY ON PREMISES
MAN WITH A CATAPULT. WOMAN'S SEARCH WITH POKER. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] NGARUAWAHIA, Wednesday. A charge of being unlawfully on the premises of Mrs. J. S. Edge, at 2 a.m., was preferred against Neil Moffatt, an old-age pensioner, who appeared before justices of the peace this morning. Evidence was given by Mrs. Edge and her daughter, Violet Edge, that they had been subject to annoyance from Moffatt, who lived in a shack adjacent to their dwelling. This morning, said the daughter, she heard some one prowling round. She seized a poker and went to investigate, when she saw a man armed with a large catapult with which he had evidently been firing stones at the house. A dispute followed, during which her mother appeared on the scene. The police were summoned and they took Moffatt to a doctor for medical attention. Accused was convicted and sentence was suspended until Saturday, in order to give him time to consider going to the old men's home.
