THE UNIVERSITIES MATCH 1 . AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON. GAME ENDS IN A DRAW. The annual Rugby football match between Auckland University College and (Victoria College, Wellington, was played as a curtain-raiser to the representative match at Eden Park on Saturday and result ed in a draw, each side scoring three points. v When the teams took the field heavy rain was falling. The visitors won the toss and played with the wind. There was little to choose between the teams in the early stages, play being confined to the forwards. The Wellington backs attempted to open up the game, but its efforts did not meet with success. From a penalty Ramson nearly succeeded with the kick, the ball hitting the crossbar and rebounding. Soon afterwards the same player scored after a loose rush, eluding three opponents- He failed with the kick. Auckland was attacking when the quarter ended without further scoring. The Auckland forwards were quickly seen to advantage in some good loose rushes. The bail was kicked over the visitors' line and Bradanovich followed through to score. Millar failed with the kick. Auckland maintained the advan- ! tage until half-time, which was called with the scores 3 all. The teams changed straight over with©ut. taking an interval. Good footwork by FGden placed Wellington on the attack, and for some time it kept Auckland penned in its twenty-five. Cashmore and Goodwin eventually relieved the pressure. Thero was no addition to the scores at the er.d of the third quarter. A likely movement between Jenkin and Bradanovich was frustrated by Foden, who ran to the Auckland twenty-five. Uninteresting play followed until the end of the match. Although both sides took turns at attack, neither was able to increase its score, the match ending; Auckland University College, 3; Victoria College, 3.
