NEW ZEALAND APPLES.
SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT. FRUIT KEPT IN COLD STORE. [from otjr own correspondent.] LONDON, July 30. When the Tainni arrived at Southampton on June 10 several thousand cases of apples were taken... off the vessel and placed in cold store on the docks. The producers of this lot of apples were well distributed and no single grower owned a large quantity. In addition participation in the experiment was purely voluntary. These apples have been kept in store and carefully watched all throughout June and until last week-end. In the meantime the Australian and New Zealand apples had been cleared off the market in London. Then the five or six, thousand cases of Stunners and Statesmans were brought up to London, with happy results. - r;
. The fruit was in very good condition and naturally met with a ready sale at satisfactory prices. Sturmers sold at from 17s to £1 Is, and Statesmans at from £1 to £1 3s. The larger apples of this latter variety made £l, but all the smaller apples were disposed of readily at £1 3s.
