PROGRESS OF MAINTENANCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAEROA, Thursday. The Ohinemuri County Council met today, the chairman, Mr. H. M. Corbett, presiding. The District Highways Council advised that, although it supported an application to have the road from Netherton ferry to the Kopu-Raglan Road declared a main highway, the Main Highways Board was unable to accede to the request owing to the position of its finances.
The Minister of Public Works advised that consideration would be given a request for a Government subsidy of £ISOO, at tho rate of £2 for £l, for the formation and metalling of miles of tho Waihi-Whangamata Road. Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P., forwarded a letter from the Minister of Public Works in connection with the erosion by the Komata stream above tho Paeroa-Tliames main highway. Tho letter stated that tho Main Highways Board did not consider the road was endangered, and had no funds for protection work. Tho Minister considered this was a matter for tho individual owner. Tho Whangainata Settlors' Association forwarded thanks for the council's activity in furthering the interests of Whangainata and district. The Waikino School of Mines was granted a donation of £3O.
