POLICE COURT NEWS.

YOUNG GIRLS' ESCAPADES. USE OF A MOTOR-CAR. Two girls, aged 18, who had been in Auckland for about three weeks, were charged in the Police Court yesterday with being idle and disorderly persons. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said one came from Wellington and the other from Waipukurau. They had secured an old motor-car, for which one of the girls was paying 5s a week, and they had been arrested at three o'clock in the morning with young men in the car with -them. One of the accused had already been in charge of the child welfare officer in Palmerston North. The magistrate. Mr. F. K. Hunt, said he was at a loss to know what to do with them. He would remand them for a week and place them under the care of Major Gordon. Their names would be suppressed while further inquiries were made. A European, Cecilia Ah Lap, was charged with being drunk in Cook Street and breaking a prohibition order. The senior sergeant said there had been a number of breaches of the order. Accused had been seen in company with Indians. "She is a menace to the community," said the magistrate. "She will be fined £lO. in default one month's imprisonment. I shall not give her time to pay." A plea of guilty was entered by George Wells, aged 43, to a charge of stealing a rug valued at £2, the property of Ralph Lionel Ziinan. He was remanded until September 5 for sentence.
