POLICE COURT NEWS.
THEFT BY MARRIED MAN. REMANDED IN CUSTODY. Three charges of theft involving £lO 8s 2d and one of falsely obtaining £22 13s from J. S. Dickson and Sons were preferred against Gordon Macdonald Gordon, aged 30, in the Police Court yesterday. Accused pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Cummmgs said accused had received money and had failed to account for it. The false pretences charge was in connection with a fictitious order. He was married and had two children, and he had used the pioney for household purposes. Mr. Snedden said accused could not obtain sufficient money to support his family and he succumbed to temptation. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, refused a request for the suppression of accused's name and he also refused bail. "The man should not steal," he said. "He cannot just walk in and walk out of Court. If he remains in custody for a few days he will have some idea of where he is heading. Ha does not doserve the sympathy—that should go to the people who have been robbed." Accused was remanded until Friday, pending further inquiries. Leslie Bailey, aged 30, admitted being drunk in Symonds Street and refusing to pay the fare in a tramcnr. A fine of 5s was imposed on the first charge and £1 on the second. On charges of failing lo produce tickets when travelling on a train, M. Troupe and A. Jones were each ordered to pay costs.
