NORTH SHORE BUSES.

Sir, —The condition of the North Stmn* ft us service between Bayswater, Devonport and Milford is 3 disgrace. Ir com* mon with others I have been waiting patiently for the improvement."! in the service which were to take place when _ the Devonport Ferry Company controlled the whole of the traffic. As far as I eati see the net results are that unless one risks life and limb by scrambling over the' rails of the ferry boats, and, having reaehed the shore, running to catch tba bus, there is no chance whatever of getting a seat. The Ferry Company, however, have managed to even matters up here by an ingenious system oi misdirection cards attached to prominent positions on the bus. These have abs'olutel" pc . relation to the destination of the vehicle, but are placed there to delude the early arrivals into a fancied security about th» thev are endeavouring to regat" their breath on. When the bus is almost full some curious individual generally asks if the bus is going to, say, Milford. The comedian behind the wheel then replies:.. •"No, Hall's Corner only," and the Milford passengers sadly rise and continue the search. I heard our man say the other night that he had been in four different buses, ft is a very pleasant little diversion for a summer evening, but tha humour palls under conditions such as at the Bayewater Wharf at present. The 'drivers do their best, but by the time a man driving a 00-senter bus which is accommodating 42 people has said "No. madam, Milford only, first stop Avenue; no, I don't stop at Hall's Corner" to about 100 wet and infuriated passengers, his general tendencies are probably homicidal. - MrLFOBO RESIDEXT.
