DEFEAT OF NORFOLK. INNINGS AND 97 RUNS. MERRITT PROVES DEADLY. Six WICKETS FOR 34 RUNS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received August 2S. 5.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Sun. LONDON, Aug. 27. The cricket match New Zealand v. Norfolk which was commenced yesterday at Norwich was concluded to-day in the presence of 800 spectators the \isitois won by an innings and 97 runs On the first day the New Zealanders won the toss and sent Norfolk in to bat. This policy was amply justified for eight wickets had fallen for 80 runs before luncheon. The first ball of the match sent Colman back to the pavilion. Then Merritt dismissed three others in quick succession. Page had Stevens caught at short leg in his first over. Half the side was out within one hour. Merritt's last ball before luncheon dismissed R Rought, When play was resumed Merritt continued the most devastating spell of bowling of the tour lie troubled all the batsmen. The innings was finished off in 100 minutes. The. New Zealanders made runs slowly at first against good length bowling, but after the fall o f the third wicket at 101 Caere and Blunt batted merrily and added 158. Dacre hit three sixes. When stumps were drawn Blunt (79) and Dacre (93) were still together and the score was 259 for three wickets. This morning when the match was continued the New Zealanders lost seven wickets in an hour for 53. R. Rought took full advantage of the drying pitch. Dacre, who was over anxious to complete Ins century,"was bowled by a full-toss after iiaving batted 140 minutes. He had hit three sixes and five fours. The partnership for the fourth wicket had yielded 169. Blunt was batting three hours and hit 10 fours. Norfolk's batting in the second innings was feeble until Falcon and Nichols be- / came associated. They added 68 for the fifth wicket. Nichols gave a sound display. McGirr bowled cleverly. He was helped by the drying turf. , Details of the scores are NEW ZEALAND.—First Innings.
