ESCAPE AT CROSSING.
engine strikes lorry. VEHICLE TURNED RIGHT OVER, DRIVER'S MINOR INJURIES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Sunday. A miraculous escape from death at a level crossing occured yesterday afternoon, when a motor-lorry driven along Ranolf Street by Mr. S. Parsons made to cross the railway line. Parsons did not at first see the approaching train, which had left the station for Auckland at 3.25 p.m. He was" halfway across the rails when he saw the engine almost on top of him. He endeavoured to accelerate, but the cowcatcher of the engine struck the back wheel of the lorry and turned the vehicle right over. The train pulled up within a short distance, and it was found that Mr. Tarsons had escaped with minor injuries.
An inspection did not reveal any serious damage to the lorry
