YOUNG OFFENDERS.
ESCAPADES BY BROTHERS. CASES IN CHILDREN'S COURT. A boy, 12 years o! age, appeared in the Children's Court on Saturday as a result of having been involved, with his elder brother, in a series of escapades. The older brother is now at the Weraroa Training Farm. The police evidence was that the boys left home and took overcoats from the school at Mangere. Later they took two ladies' bicycles and left them on the road. Then they commandeered a horse and gig, which they drove over a bank, leaving the horse there to die. Both had admitted the offences. The horse was valued at £ll and the damage to the gig was placed at £2. There was not much doubt that the older boy was the one to blame. An order for the restitution of £7 10s was made. Three years" supervision was ordered for a girl, not quite nine years old, who had taken a teacher's purse containing £3 10s. The purse and money had not been recovered. A lad over 16, referred to the Court from the Magistrate's Court, was charged with having stolen a cheque from his employer, filled it in for £5 10s, and cashed it. He was placed under the supervision of the child welfare officer for two years, and ordered to pay back the £5 iOs.
