LATE MR. GLADSTONE MAHON.

SOLDIER AND YACHTSMAN. The death occurred in the Auckland Hospital on Saturday morning of Mr. Leo Gladstone Mahon, as the result of injuries received in a collision between a motor-car and a breakdown at the junction of Eden Street and Anzac A von lie at midnight on Thursday. Mr. Mahon sustained a compound fracture of the right leg and internal injuries. Mr. Mahon, who was aged 41, resided at SaJtburn Road, Takapuna, and was the youngest son of the late Lieutenant-Colonel Owen Mahon. He was well known in business circles in the city and for some years was a prominent yachtsman. He was for a time honorary secretary to the Hoyal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, and was one of the crew of the lorangi and lvotiri. Mr. Mahon saw a good deal ot service during the Great War, having left New Zealand as a company sergeant-major with the Eighth Reinforcement, and saw service in Egypt and France. He was selected for special training in the artillery, and after completing a successful course at Aldershot, was posted a second-lieutenant in the Royal Horse Artillery. He was subsequently drafted with the R.F.A. to Palestine, where he was attached to the Australian and New Zealand mounted division. In Palestine he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and, with the exception of a couple of months when he was invalided through malaria, he took part" in Lord Allenby's great advance. Mr Mahon is survived by his wife, the youngest daughter of the late Mr. Robert Frater, and three young children.
