CHURCH AND SOVIET.

CIVIL RULE ACCEPTED. LOYALTY TO FATHERLAND. (Received August 21, G. 15 p.m.) A. and N.Z. MOSCOW, Aug. 20. The Greek Orthodox Church, which under the Patriarch Tikhon vigorously opposed the Soviet, has now completely accepted the civil rule of the Soviet. The Metropolitan, Archbishop Sergius, the present head of the Church, has issued a proclamation appealing to the members to regard the Union of Soviets as " our civil Fatherland." The Metropolitan also demands that the clergy shall give a written pledge of their loyalty to the Soviet, under penalty of exclusion from the Church.
